Iris, ongoing project
Hand carved stamps on the street, permanent ink
What you see becomes who you are if you let it. And people will see it in you.
We don’t always get to choose what we look at, but we can choose what we want to see—and what we want to do about it.
As humans, the color of your iris has nothing to do with what you see but it’s a significant physical trait that defines how people see you. This notion of certain eye colors as more or less beautiful than others freaks me out. Do I like blue eyes or have I been told over time that blue eyes are pretty? I find myself switching between the accepted norms of physical beauty vs my instinctual, individual “preferences”. Are they the same?
And then there are times when I look at the walls and just feel that primitive desire to leave a mark—like a caveman’s finger painting of bulls in Spain or pictographs of hand prints in Utah.
